About FPJS

Our Mission

Founded in 1996, the Fort Pierce Jazz & Blues Society is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster a greater awareness and love for jazz by teaching and performing this great American art form in schools. To cooperate and correspond with other jazz-oriented groups locally and around the nation and to assist in the organization of similar societies for the growth, appreciation, and perpetuation of jazz music.

The Fort Pierce Jazz & Blues Society presents Jazz to the public in a variety of ways, including: festivals, performances, free jams, hands-on workshops, clinics and community education and outreach initiatives.

Our objectives are to foster a greater awareness and enjoyment of jazz in the community through education and performances, to provide scholarships to deserving students who wish to further their knowledge and skill in the music field.

Our Programs

The Fort Pierce Jazz & Blues Society's programs are designed to showcase the variety of styles and cultural traditions existing in Jazz music today, and they attract audiences of all ages, income levels, and cultural backgrounds.

Presentations

Jazz Week a week long celebration of jazz and blues music that consist of lectures, workshops, master-classes in the schools kindergarten through college, concerts, clinics, art exhibits and our ever popular Brown Bag Concert Series, held at the downtown Ft. Pierce branch of the St. Lucie County Library. Each year Jazz Week has a new theme.

Scholarships

In seven years, FPJS has given away more than 15 scholarships to deserved music students who plan to pursue a career in music to some degree. Only through contributions and sponsored events are we able to award scholarships to college bound students who wish to pursue music as a career. For more information on the Scholarship Program please see our eduction and outreach section of our site.

Music in Schools

In an effort to keep jazz music flourishing we must work in the schools to expose young people to the history of this great American art form. The jazz society is actively involved in presenting workshops, demonstrations, master-classes, lectures and concerts to students at all levels from K thru college

The Fort Pierce Jazz Society is committed to our mission and intends to be a cultural, educational and entertainment resource in the community well into the future. For more information on available programs, please see our education and outreach section.
